Kesar – Son of God, Episode 12 | Shyok Times

Chapter (Yaldaq) No.: 4

“Lafo Kesar’s Marriage to Lamoh Brangmo”

Episode Number.: 12

When Ghot Pamchong said, “Father! I too have killed a weak ibex,” Kharibu Kharaqthing’s heart sank.

He thought, “Surely Ghot Pamchong has killed the real Brong Zhampa, not me.” When he looked into Lafu Kaiser’s camp, he saw horns made of coral, long hair adorned with pearls, golden-colored hide, and poisonous hooves all lying together in a heap.

Then Kharibu Kharaqthing said, “My son! It seems that you have killed Brong Zhampa, while I have only killed a weak ibex.”

Ghot Pamchong replied, “Father! I told you that Brong Zhampa was in the right valley, but you did not listen to me and went into the left valley. The ibex you killed was killed by your own hands because that was what I wanted. Why do you want to eat the meat of this weak and sick ibex? There is plenty of meat in the right valley. Send all your friends and the husbands of Lehmo Brangmo’s sisters to the right valley so that they can bring the meat back to your camp.”

Kharibu Kharaqthing returned to his camp and instructed all his men to go to the right valley and bring back the meat of Brong Zhampa.

Kharibu Kharaqthing and everyone else decided to return home without wasting any more time in the mountains. However, Ghot Pamchong remained there and rested in the mountains for a few days. Thus, everyone else returned quickly, while Ghot Pamchong deliberately decided to stay behind.

When the people heard that Kharibu Kharaqthing and all the other competitors had once again failed to win the world’s most beautiful princess and had returned like a defeated army—and that the ugly Ghot Pamchong had killed Brong Zhampa and obtained its golden fleece—they began shouting:

“Ghot Pamchong has killed Brong Zhampa!”

Upon hearing this, Lehmo Brangmo once again tried to escape from the ugly clown.

An old woman had been appointed to comb Lehmo Brangmo’s hair, braid it, and attend to her needs. The expedition to hunt Brong Zhampa took several days.

One day, when Lafu Kaiser and the other competitors were expected to reach the city the following day, the old woman asked the young girl, Lehmo Brangmo:

“Why are you so worried? You should always welcome your husband, who has killed Brong Zhampa and won you for the third time. Why are you trying to run away from him? People believe that he is Lafu Kaiser, the Son of God.”

Lehmo Brangmo replied:

“That is all nonsense, Mother! If it were true, I would lick his shoes.”

The old woman said:

“If you do not believe me, there is a field called ‘Alowi Thang’ outside this city. Tomorrow is Friday, and every Friday all the fairies, gods, and their sons gather there to play in their true forms. You should go there before Friday morning. Dig a pit there, hide yourself inside it, and perhaps you will soon realize that Ghot Pamchong is actually Lafu Kaiser.”

Following the old woman’s instructions, the next morning, before dawn, Lehmo Brangmo dug a pit at the edge of the field and hid inside it.

She saw several divine beings appearing in the area and meeting one another. For some time, she watched all this in astonishment and confusion. Then Ghot Pamchong suddenly appeared with his two servants.

As soon as he stepped into the field, a powerful gust of wind swept through the area, and darkness descended everywhere.

From within the clouds of dust and all-enveloping darkness, an extraordinarily handsome young man appeared, riding a white horse. His arrival was like rays of sunlight touching snow-covered mountains, or like freshly opened flowers adorning a pomegranate tree.

Lafu Kaiser scattered millet grains across the entire field and galloped his horse. Then, with the tip of his spear, he picked up the grains.

When Lehmo Brangmo saw this, she became certain that this was Lafu Kaiser—the Son of God—her husband, who for some reason had taken the form of the ugliest man, Ghot Pamchong.

Upon discovering the truth, she was so happy that she jumped out of the pit and sang:

“Who is that handsome man in the field of Alowi Thang?
The one wearing a new turban upon his head—
My Lafu Kaiser is the handsome one!

Who is that handsome man in the field of Alowi Thang?
The one wearing a Shimla waist belt—
My Lafu Kaiser is the handsome one!

Who is that handsome man in the field of Alowi Thang?
The one riding a Kyangbo Helpa—
My Lafu Kaiser is the handsome one!”

As she was singing, another powerful storm suddenly arose. Dust followed in its wake, and darkness spread everywhere.

Soon, the dust and darkness cleared, and Lehmo Brangmo saw Ghot Pamchong coming toward her from the middle of the field.

She hurried toward him. After wiping the dust from his lips and mouth, she embraced him tightly, kissed him, and showered him with affection.

Ghot Pamchong asked:

“Why have you come here? This is a place for fairies and supernatural beings.”

He took Lehmo Brangmo into his arms, kissed and embraced her, and then began to sing:

“Who is the most beautiful in the field of Alowi Thang?
She is like a fresh flower blooming on a pomegranate tree—
My Lehmo Brangmo is the most beautiful!

Who is the most beautiful in the field of Alowi Thang?
Like shining rays of sunlight
Touching snow-covered mountains—
My Lehmo Brangmo is the most beautiful!

Who is the most beautiful in the field of Alowi Thang?
Like a kneaded ball of pure white wheat flour—
My Lehmo Brangmo is the most beautiful!

Who is the most beautiful in the field of Alowi Thang?
Adorned with ornaments of gold and silver—
My Lehmo Brangmo is the most beautiful!

Who is the most beautiful in the field of Alowi Thang?
Whose curly hair adorns her beautiful face—
My Lehmo Brangmo is the most beautiful!

Who is the most beautiful in the field of Alowi Thang?
The one who adorns her eyes with kohl—
My Lehmo Brangmo is the most beautiful!”

Lafu Kaiser told Lehmo Brangmo all the details of the hunt.

Lehmo Brangmo hurried home, with Ghot Pamchong following closely behind her. When she reached the front of the palace of her father, Fiokpo Takhmospа, she called out in song:

“Those who sold themselves for water and firewood
Are the husbands of my sisters.

Those who could not free themselves from the burden of meat
Are the husbands of my sisters.

Those who have marks upon their foreheads
Are the husbands of my sisters.

But the one who brought horns made of coral
Is my husband—the husband of the princess.

The one who brought the long ibex hair adorned with pearls
Is my husband—the husband of the princess.

The one who brought the poisonous hooves
Is my husband—the husband of the princess.

The one who brought the trophy of golden fleece
Is my husband—the husband of the princess.

The one who appears to be Ghot Pamchong
Is actually Lafu Kaiser, the Son of God.
He is my husband—the husband of the princess.”

In this way, through her song, she revealed that her husband was not Ghot Pamchong, but Lafu Kaiser, the Son of God.

All those who had previously insulted him would now have to receive him with the greatest respect. They would have to come before him carrying musical instruments around their necks; otherwise, Lafu Kaiser would not forgive them.

Upon hearing these words, Fiokpo Takhmospа began to tremble with fear.

Without putting on his hat or shoes, he prepared horses and other gifts and set out with the musicians to welcome Lafu Kaiser.

Fiokpo Takhmospа collected tribute from the people, and they prepared dough from flour and water beside the river. They then baked bread on the mountain and distributed it among all the men.

Even the mountain goats and other animals were given food—until everyone had eaten their fill.

And thus, everyone celebrated the marriage of Fiokpo Takhmospа’s daughter, Lehmo Brangmo, to the Son of God—Lafu Kaiser.
