Skardu Airport Secondary Runway Closed for Construction

SKARDU, GILGIT-BALTISTAN: Skardu International Airport remains operational, although its secondary runway (14L) is temporarily closed for construction and maintenance work from October 20 to November 3, 2026.

According to the published aviation advisory, the main runway remains open and continues to handle scheduled flights. The temporary restriction applies to runway 14L, where construction activities are planned on both sides.

The Pakistan Airports Authority has issued an advisory to aircraft captains regarding the runway closure and emergency procedures during the construction period.

Secondary Runway May Be Available in an Emergency

The aviation advisory states that runway 14L may be made available within one hour in an emergency, subject to coordination with air traffic control and the necessary operational clearance.

Aircraft captains have been instructed to contact the relevant authorities before using the runway in an emergency.

Airport Operations Continue

The temporary closure of runway 14L does not mean that Skardu International Airport is completely closed. The main runway remains operational, according to the information provided in the advisory.

Passengers travelling to or from Skardu should confirm their flight status directly with their airlines before leaving for the airport. Weather conditions and operational requirements can affect flight schedules in the mountainous region.

Travellers can also check updates through the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority and the Skardu Airport website.
