Sohail Afridi Abduction Claim Sparks Fresh Political Controversy in Lahore | Shyok Times

Sohail Afridi abduction claim has triggered a fresh political controversy after the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister alleged that he was taken away by authorities in Lahore and later left by the roadside without security. Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has rejected the allegation, saying Afridi entered a Punjab Police vehicle voluntarily.

According to reports, Afridi was in Lahore as part of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s political activities when the incident occurred. A senior KP government official accompanying him said the chief minister had boarded a police van in an attempt to secure the release of detained party workers. While some workers were released, Afridi allegedly remained inside the vehicle.

The official claimed police later drove the van away from the original location and removed Afridi before leaving him without his security detail.

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari presented a different version. She said Afridi voluntarily walked toward and boarded the police vehicle and subsequently refused requests to leave. A video shared by Bokhari appears to show Afridi entering the vehicle himself.

Bokhari also rejected suggestions that Afridi had been arrested or abducted, arguing that his security personnel and a cameraman were present during the incident. She described the allegations as politically motivated.

KP government officials, however, strongly condemned the incident. KP Information Minister Shafi Jan alleged that Afridi had been separated from his security team and forcibly moved before being left at another location. He described the episode as an attack on the dignity of an elected provincial chief minister and warned against actions that could deepen tensions between Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The controversy comes amid heightened political activity in Punjab. The provincial government has imposed restrictions on public gatherings under Section 144 until September 17, citing security concerns.

The competing accounts surrounding the Sohail Afridi abduction claim remain unresolved, with both sides presenting sharply different interpretations of the same incident. Further video evidence, official inquiries or statements from law-enforcement authorities could help establish what happened.
