Lafo Kesar’s Northern Adventure – Episode 15 | Shyok Times

Kesar – Son of God

Chapter (Yuldak) No. 5

“Lafu Kesar’s Expedition to the North”

Episode Number.: 15

Lafo Kesar said to his guardian goddess, “I can see the army of the Broqpa approaching. The Son of God is frightened. O my aunt, save me! Protect me from them!”

Aine Karmanmo replied, “O son of an evil mother! These are merely the skeletons of those whom Dray Shima Rgyal devoured. He placed them here, near his kingdom, to frighten anyone who approaches. You must shoot an arrow, and you will create a passage through which you can travel.”

Lafo Kesar shot an arrow that struck some of the skeletons, smashing them to pieces and creating a path through which they could pass. They resumed their journey and eventually reached the fortress of Dray Shima Rgyal.

Lafo Kesar began circling the fortress but could find no gate, no window, and no opening of any kind. In fact, there was no apparent way to enter the fortress. Lafo Kesar became deeply troubled and frightened by the situation.

His goddess said, “There is no need to worry. Inside the fortress is Malda Bramskid, the wife of Dray Shima Rgyal. Call out to her and ask her to show you a way inside. I know she will help you.”

After standing there in confusion for a while, Lafo Kesar sang toward the fortress:

“Who in this fortress is known as Malda Bramskid?
Whoever is called Malda Bramskid, are you the one?
I see no rope connecting your fortress to the sky.
I see no means of entering the fortress from the ground.”

Malda Bramskid, the wife of Dray Shima Rgyal, was inside the fortress. When she heard the song, she opened a window and responded in song:

“Are you the one known as King Lafo Kesar?
Are you the man whose name is Lafo Kesar?
Are you riding the horse called Kyangbo Helpa?
For Kyangbo Helpa, there is neither ‘above’ nor ‘below.’
Why should Lafo Kesar need doors and windows to enter any building?”

When Lafo Kesar heard her words, he thought to himself, “She is right. I possess such a magnificent horse.”

He then took a needle from his collar, and Kyangbo Helpa appeared before him. Lafo Kesar mounted the horse in a single leap and struck it with his whip three times—through the skin to the flesh, from the flesh to the bone, and from the bone to the marrow.

The horse became extremely wet and slippery. With a single leap, it soared from the ground onto the roof of Dray Shima Rgyal’s fortress.
